Dream Evil is by no means a departure from the Dio formula that was so successful for his first three solo albums. All of the elements that made them so successful are yet again retained here. However, what makes things different this time around is that Dio has more of a melodious side to him, which he puts use here rather than relying on the riffs and delivery he learned at the school of Sabbath…

OBJECTION OVERRULED is the ninth studio album by German heavy metal band Accept, released in 1993. It is the first to feature Udo Dirkschneider on lead vocals since 1986's Russian Roulette. It was recorded at Dierks-Studios in Stommeln after pre-production at Roxx Studios. Scaled down to Udo Dirkschneider on vocals, Wolf Hoffmann on guitar, Peter Baltes on bass guitar and Stefan Kaufmann on drums, 1993’s “Objection Overruled” is certainly a return to form for these German metal legends.

Rip It Up is proof positive that this is a band that exists only to push itself and aim higher. The album - as the title suggests - sees Danny Bowes, Luke Morley, Ben Matthew, Chris Childs and 'Harry' James stretching themselves musically, lyrically and creatively. This album comes nearly three decades into their career and, if 27 is normally famed and feared as the rock milestone at which many of the great and the good have had their creative flames extinguished, then Thunder have arrived with a bulging bag of tunes, a notebook of great lyrics, a jerrycan of petrol, and a match. There are rockers, like the incendiary title track, ripsnorters like 'She Likes The Cocaine', whilst songs like 'Right From The Start' take the pace down, but turn the intensity up. Whilst the album closes out with the stylish blues-tinged melancholia of 'There's Always A Loser', it's clear that the band have continued with their winning ways.

Black Sabbath are arguably the most influential heavy metal band of all time. The band helped to create the genre with ground breaking releases such as Paranoid, an album that Rolling Stone magazine said "changed music forever", and called the band "the Beatles of heavy metal". Time Magazine called Paranoid "the birthplace of heavy metal". The Ultimate Collection is curated in conjunction with the band, the 31-track collection features the band’s classic songs including Paranoid, Iron Man, War Pigs, N.I.B. and The Wizard as well as choice cuts from their classic albums and is the definitive accompaniment for all Sabbath fans as well as those with a love of hard rock.

As we edge closer to the “final shows” by Black Sabbath, one not unexpected thing has happened. We have an announcement of a new compilation from Universal. The compilation is called “Black Sabbath: The Ultimate Collection”. This is a two CD compilation from Sanctuary/BMG. I’ve written about this in the past on the site, but this means that it won’t be released domestically, as this is based off the European record contract that covers from 1970-1987, whereas the Warner/Rhino contract covers US/North America.

Jim Stacey did perform second guitar live with the band.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE is the seventh studio album by German heavy metal band Accept, released in 1986. It was again recorded at Dierks-Studios, but the band chose to self-produce rather than bring back Dieter Dierks as producer. It would be the last Accept album to feature Udo Dirkschneider as lead vocalist until the 1993 reunion album Objection Overruled. The album returns Accept to the darker, heavier sound of releases prior to the more commercial-sounding predecessor Metal Heart.

Although relatively strong sales at the time of its release would appear to refute this claim, Dio's third album in three years, 1985's Sacred Heart, was a terribly divisive affair, and is largely viewed as a disappointment in retrospect. This is because, although many brand-new yet fickle-minded fans were attracted by the album's noticeably more commercial hard rock songwriting, almost as many of Dio's most loyal, long-serving supporters were turned off by this new direction – as well as the already stagnant clichés being recycled from prior triumphs…

Worlds Apart marks the second release by Horizon, a French/German combination formed in 1998 by guitarist/lead vocalist Patrick Hemen and drummer Krissy Friedrich. The follow-up to the band's debut album, The Sky's The Limit sees the band cranking up their sound a bit with less emphasis on keyboards and more emphasis on a virtual smorgasbord of guitar riffs that ooze from every track and gives the album a very "busy" sound.
