Isaac Delusion was a revelation in 2014 after releasing a catchy and fresh album bringing french music elegant synthpop and a new kind of voice. This remains in this new outing as Loic's voice is distinctive and high pitched.

Isabella reminds the freshness of their debut album, thanks to rich production and engaging composition. So is also the magnetic Distance, relying on a destructured beat not far from drum’n’bass. Mysterious and spleen ambiances are well mixed, making this song a winner. Voyager and its peruvian flute adds great feeling and gives hopes that the second album is on the right tracks. Some of these new experimentations are enjoyable as Take The Crown. Despite a confused first part, the song manages to take its flight in a seductive instrumental part. Same would not be said about the blues influenced The Sinner, completely blurred by over the place singing. The voice here is annoying and too forced during most of the track. Luck and Mercy uses same blues beat, eyeing rather in a Portishead way. Voice is arranged to remind Beth Gibbons’ Glory Box, but honestly I’m feeling lost and don’t know where the track is going. Psychedelic synth rock is invited in a dynamic Black Widow, quite soulful indeed. This proves Isaac Delusion made a good choice of wanting to renew his sound. How Much (You Want Her) is a pop soul venture, enjoyable and retro, but lacks the magic the band got in the first album. However it’s a highlight of Rust & Gold.

The band seems to find back its audacious mojo and inspiration in the catchy A few Steps, borrowing some interesting drum’n’bass structure and jazz influences. A rich track, where Loic’s voice is cleverly controlled yet enjoyable. A deep and soulful Bittersweet Fruit could be the best song here, as Loic’s voice is really haunting here. The guitar notes are melancholic, and the track should be a perfect indie movie soundtrack. Dream pop is invited in the ethereal Mother Shelter, a sleepy but confortable musical experience, closing in the best way this new album. Despite some weird experimentations and , the french band delivers another interesting musical piece. Some instrumentations stand out as audacious and graceful, making this Rust & Gold a decent affair.
