The band Kladivo Konj in Voda were a mostly acoustic band featuring acid-tinged Slovenian folk-rock, active from the late seventies through 1983 in the former Yugoslavia. Guitarist Danijel Bedrac reformed the group for a few years in the late nineties, but with a completely different lineup and electric instruments. Their first recording 'Vidov Ples' is the best representation of their progressive folk sound.

Flor De Loto is a present Peruvian Progressive rock band, led by the flautist Johnny Perez. The outfit brillantly blends elements of Seventies Progressive rock with Andean music. This style might as well remind of Jethro Tull, if Ian Anderson's band ever felt like emigrating to South America! Flute and guitar riffs are omnipresent, which enhances the charm of this elegant and joyful music.

"The sad story about Joe, József Magyar, about a nice little man. Her family, her growth, her encounter with music, her love, her marriage, her hatred, her murder, her imprisonment, her liberation, and the never-ending conscientious objection of killing her wife she really loved. The idea struck me out of nowhere. Jimi Hendrix has announced world-wide blues about jealousy, Hey Joe, which I've compiled for forty years and I've been playing since then. For some reason I remembered that if I had an American name, that is, "Hobo", then "Joe" could be Hungarian, and I wrote a sketch of the life story of a murderer in a sitting room.

Taken from the rich catalog of the ECM label and exclusively intended for the readers of Jazz Music, this anthology contains some of the most important examples of the fruitful marriage between two important musical traditions: that of the African American and Asiatic stock. The origin of the extraordinary meeting dates back to the beginning of the Sixties, continuing to this day in a very singular but far from forced development, and certainly with very suggestive results. The twelve songs offer the occasion, not always frequent, to know musicians linked to technique and spirituality for centuries rooted in the great continent (in this album, especially in India) and together to appreciate the naturalness with which jazz musicians of absolute value have been able to support them: we listen to European and European talents such as Don Cherry, Leroy Jenkins, John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek, Charlie Mariano, Collin Walcott, John Abercrombie, John Surman, Mat Maneri, singers Karin Krog and Susanne Abbuehl.

The show has been in permanent residence at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, since October 1998. "O" was inspired by the "infinity and elegance of water's pure form," which pays tribute to the beauty of the theater. The music of "O" was composed by Benoit Jutras and features a mix of classical Western and world instrumentation, including Chinese violin (erhu), bagpipes, African guitar and harp (kora), Colombian guitar, cello, ancient woodwinds and a wide variety of percussion instruments. During the show, the score is performed by a live band situated behind glass walls above and to the side of the stage.

It is not easy to find a single word in English that can stand for the Bosnian concept of SEVDAH, although yearning perhaps comes closest. Like the Spanish duende, it carries multiple meanings – love, hopeless love, endless love, a desire that chills and fevers the lover like malaria, and like malaria can never be shaken off – but in the end, it’s a way of life, and a narrative that tells the story of itself.

I Början Och Slutet is the eighth studio album released by the influential Swedish band Trettioåriga Kriget (Thirty Years War). This is rock that, even though it has that particular 70's rock sound, sounds fresh and well produced. There is a very good flow to the album as most tracks are either a direct continuation of one another or connected in another way so that the music or sound never cease. The album has a clean sound, every instrument is clearly heard (for instance, follow the bass playing in the instrumental tracks).

A nice one-off entry in the genre of Basque folk rock. Itziar's music resembes the first Haizea album in that it is more folk rock than prog folk of the sort that Itoiz delved into. The album, which does have a bass/ drums rhythm section, is dominated by chiming guitars, usually nylon string, with touches of electric guitar (even some solos), flute, sax and some background synth. The female lead vocalist mixes traditional singing with some distinct Joni Mitchell influence at times- very pleasant. As on pretty well all Iberian music, the group vocals as a whole are excellent. Sonically, the Basque folk element is strong, of course, but there is also a resemblance to Beau Dommage's jazzy folk-rock style in Quebec during the same era.

The Sephardic Experience quadrilogy is a priceless sound document in which the Renaissance Players present their own performance versions of well– and lesser–known romansas (ballads), kantigas (religious songs) and muwashshahat (poetical forms) which have survived for centuries entirely via oral/aural transmission by parents, grandparents, friends and acquaintances within the family circle, while working, or as a form of ad hoc entertainment in Sephardic communities of the West and East. Sadly, as the end of the 20th century draws near we are witnessing the alarming disappearance of Spanish–Jewish culture due to vast, worldwide changes in social circumstances. In fact, these songs are no longer a part of the rich, musical fabric of the everyday life of the Sephardim.
