Genre: Freestyle, Electro, Breakbeat | Label: Street Sounds | Catalog Number: SSNECD 001

Nu Electro proves is that electro is still beating strong thanks to both old school originators like Egyptian Lover and Newcleus, and a new generation such as Invisible Rockers Crew and Dark Vektor. Not to mention the fact that it s now spread far beyond its American strongholds in New York and Detroit, with the latter two producers hailing from Athens and Barcelona respectively. Covering 2 CDs mixed by Freddy Fresh and Diplomat, it also represents electro in its most purist form with almost every track from The B Boys You Know We Rock to Supreme.Ja s Freak constructed from the same core elements of 808s, brittle beats and robotic voices and a complete disregard for any electroclash or electro-house affectations that have subsequently diluted the sound. True, electro no longer sounds as shockingly futuristic as it once did, but nor is it as creaky as an old breakdancer s joints when they try their knee drops again.

In support of the original tracks “Slow Poem” and “Cellar Door”, other 7 artists have re-imaginated and reworked the original two tracks.

This album is an official Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) release of his experimental and electronic music recorded between 1990-2003. What you get here is a collection of music that Wilson was messing around with for different purposes, none of it was originally supposed to be released to the public. Of course, since there is a demand for anything 'Steven Wilson' it has been collected for those of us who are curious about anything he does. The music here is quite experimental and leans towards his musical explorations of the early days and his experimental project 'Bass Communion'. There is quite a variety of sounds and styles throughout this music, because the songs were never intended to be put together on any album originally…

Efdemin (Berlin’s Phillip Sollmann) is among minimal techno’s most sensuous producers: No matter how reduced his arrangements, his sounds are unusually sumptuous. That fullness of tone comes to the fore on New Atlantis, his first album for Ostgut Ton, the label arm of Berlin’s iconic Berghain nightclub. Unlike that club’s famously austere, industrial vibe, New Atlantis is more inspired by Indian ragas—that’s a hurdy-gurdy in the opening track—and 1960s minimalists like Terry Riley and La Monte Young, along with Sollmann’s electroacoustic experiments in improvisation and installation art.

EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks+.cue, log) ~ 469.21 Mb | 01:17:25 | Cover
Electronic, Techno, House | Label: !K7 Records - K7377CD

Leon Vynehall made his mark as a producer by stretching house music’s conventions to accommodate, well, anything—avian mating rituals, say, or his grandparents’ migration from England to New York. His debut mix album ranges just as widely, collecting tracks old (Haruomi Hosono’s ’80s electro-pop, Bourbonese Qualk’s chilly industrial) and new (like exclusives from UK bass savant Ploy and rising house maven Peach), and taking the tempo from skulking hip-hop through skipping garage to full-on jungle. As much as a display of mixing prowess, it’s a snapshot of the UK DJ’s unusual thought process, making connections between moods that are dreamy and aggro, ethereal and paranoid, all with exceptional skill and enviable grace.

Genre: Ambient, Experimental, Techno / Label: !K7 Records

The 68th edition of the DJ-Kicks mix series is another landmark one, with experimental producer Laurel Halo taking the reins. The American’s adventurous 29 track trip features seven exclusives, including two of her own plus those from Rrose, Machinewoman, FIT Siegel, Nick León and Ikonika. An electronic outlier, Halo hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan, but has been based in Berlin for a number of years. Landing on labels like Hyperdub, Honest Jon’s and Latency, Halo has released a body of work ranging in style, yet cohered by production and compositional tendencies that sound distinctly her own. Her studio work tends to be a multi-layered mix of the electronic and the acoustic, the organic and the synthetic. As a DJ, meanwhile, she lays down more floor-focussed mixes of techno, bass and worldly drum rhythms, and her live sets are similarly visceral and direct.

Synthpop, Electronic, New Wave, Post-Punk, Dance-Rock

UK three CD collection. This release charts the birth of synthesized pop music in the 1980s and ultimately the roots of contemporary electronic dance music. The importance and continued popularity of '80s pop is not to be underestimated, and the emergence of serious synthesized music producers in Kraftwerk, the Human League, Heaven 17, OMD, Yazoo, Ultravox, Talk Talk, Japan, Devo, Sparks, Gary Numan, New Order and the Pet Shop Boys, all of whom massively pushed the boundaries in experimenting with (mainly) Roland synths in this era, ultimately showed the way for the House and Techno producers of the '90s to the present day. Within this more serious side there was also some brilliant, pure Synthpop from the Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Thomas Dolby, Simple Minds, Propaganda, Erasure, China Crisis, Belouis Some, the Lotus Eaters, a Flock of Seagulls, Howard Jones, Blancmange and the Associates.

The incomparable duo, Matmos, have done it again! Their new album, Plastic Anniversary, was created using only plastic. Highlighting the crises of convenience, the Duo make music from our refuse. True to form, the band have assembled a promiscuous array of examples of this sturdy-yet-ersatz family of materials: Dominos, Styrofoam coolers, police riot shields, polyethylene waste containers, PVC panpipes, pinpricks of bubble wrap, pills, silicone gel breast implants and most horrifically synthetic human fat.

DOLE & KOM - Twenty Five (2019)
FLAC (tracks) | 01:24:09 | 505 Mb
Genre: Techno, House, Dance / Label: 3000Grad Records

Twenty five years: That’s the amount of time that has passed since the first Dole & Kom EP went on rotation in the club world. Ever since the duo managed to keep a straight line – yet to take unexpected turns again and again. Elements of Techno and House have always been a part of this trip, like sheet lightning on the horizon – but at the end of the day none of these genres is an appropriate description for the sound of Dole & Kom. Melodic enigma and subtle drama, heavyweight bass frequencies, ecstatic intricacy and whipping hi hat showers: These are some of the most prominent features of Dole & Kom’s debut album. It consists of exclusively new tracks, and all of them reflect a deep and unbroken passion for the dancefloor, multiplied with a remarkable amount of experience. Three tracks have been created in collaboration with befriended vocal artists, apart from these you’ll hear Dole & Kom as pure as it gets. In other words: Dance music that stimulates the listener on both an emotional and an intellectual level, dance music that provides both depth and uplift.

Too bad the film "Sliver" wasn't a hit, or else this could've been one of the greatest film soundtracks of all-time. While most soundtracks just throw songs together without much thought, there's a theme on this album. You can feel the atmosphere of loneliness, lust, and mystery even if you've never seen the film. Enigma's haunting "Carly's Song" and "Carly's Loneliness" are great tracks to get you in a trance, Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony" is downright sexy, and Aftershock's "Slave To The Vibe" is the album's showstopper. The film (which was beautifully shot in an MTV style) could rightfully be a showcase just for these songs, kinda like "Purple Rain".
