Wolfram Spyra is a German composer of electronic music. He began his career in the early 1990s constructing 'soundscapes' and installations around Germany. He has collaborated with a wide range of visual artists, musicians, producers and DJs. He has released several albums, starting in 1995 with Homelistening Is Killing Clubs. Spyra's focus is on instrumental electronic music, seamlessly blending interesting samples, synthesizers, percussion and other elements together in unique ways. While sometimes experimental, most of his music has a certain accessibility in terms of the rhythmic and melodic components. Though frequently associated with the retro or "Berlin school" sound pioneered by Klaus Schulze and others, he uses modern ambient electronica elements extensively, creating his own rich sound that defies easy categorization.

Gary Numan is known for robotic, stylized singing. His primitive electronics and pre-"new romantic" sound did nothing for me. A myriad, zealous voices will tell you that Numan was sings "good songs." Now, in this 2-CD collection of Numan interpretations you can hear those good songs without Numan's idiosyncratic delivery. The known and the unknown join to make proto-dance music out of mechanical master's material. Matt Sharp (Weezer) and Damon Albarn (Blur) cover "We Have a Technical." Also on the compilation are Gravity Kills, EMF, The Magnetic Fields, Jesus Jones, the out-of-place hip hop group Underdog (but, there's only one of them), Sukia, The Orb, Pop Will Eat Itself. One of my favorite cuts is "Metal" by Towering Inferno. Brian Eno described their Kaddish album as "frightening" and they are here joined by Eddie Reader. I also am very fond of the two versions of "Are 'Friends' Electric?" Techno rockers Republicaare joined by Numan himself for one version and Belgian discovery An Pierle offers another.

Pino & Wildjamin come from Germany and they are also known as Analogue Silence, Basalt Boys, Ghost Train and Xangadix. Xangadix began as an ambient-trance outfit, with a line-up of Pino Shamlou and Benjamin Wild, but as their sophomore record was released it was evident that they had evolved into something more. Their ethereal and often quite complicated music was unusual for the early Fax label - even Namlook, the label's chief composer, wasn't working at this echelon yet. The music could broadly be referred to as downtempo, but it's got the mandatory electro beats and quite a strong groove throughout.

Modula Green is a collaboration between redruM and Mark P. (Peter Prochir and Mark Pfurtscheller), who created eerie, hypnotic experimental music in the 1990s. A Fax release which remains in relative obscurity, "Shellground" is an excellent, underappreciated ambient techno album. It's filled with layered organic sounds and deep, enigmatic synth-lines, along with tribal-influenced drum programming. It all makes for a grade A level ambient techno record. It is every bit as good as some recognized classics.

This is a marvelous effort by two newcomers to the Fax label. Sometimes light and melodic, and other times dark and trippy, there is a bit of everything here. "Hinuit" best exemplifies the free-floating musical side while "The Cage" offers up some serious "sparsed-out" trance. Minimalistic in its approach, yet engaging in its results, only carefully-tuned ears will notice the subtle sonic hues and tonal dynamics of this record.

First recognized as the dance duo behind the club hits "Stakker" (as Humanoid) and "Papua New Guinea," Future Sound of London later became one of the most acclaimed and respected international experimental ambient groups, incorporating elements of techno, classical, jazz, hip-hop, electro, industrial, and dub into expansive, sample-heavy tracks, often exquisitely produced and usually without easy precursor. Notoriously enigmatic and often disdainful of the press, the group's Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans worked their future-is-now aesthetic into a variety of different fields, including film and video, 2- and 3-D computer graphics and animation, the Internet, radio broadcast, and, of course, recorded music…

Pete Namlook was one of the most influential protagonists of ambient music during the 1990s. Inspired by Oskar Sala, one of the pioneers of electronic music, Namlook focused on the untapped potential of analogue synthesizers, often developed or extended in his laboratory.
David Moufang is a German ambient techno musician. He records with his partner, Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network project and his solo releases as Move D.

A collection of ten tracks by a mysterious artist, characterized by melancholy, nostalgia, and introspection. Ecstatic and refined aesthetics encompass the whole playtime, providing an enticing reverberation of self-consciousness and revelatory effects. Themes such as nature, cosmos, and mysticism are well-represented in this album. From beatless to 4/4 with organic drum patterns, the outcome is always warm and pleasant. A wonderful narration ranging between laid back meditative moments to more uplifting parts that keep the listener in an energetic lucid dreaming state. The sensitivity of the artist emerges through exceptionally programmed soundscapes that transport the listener into a lush exploration of self.

The Mix is a 1991 remix album by Kraftwerk. It featured re-recorded versions of a selection of songs which had originally appeared on the albums Autobahn through Electric Cafe. Hutter stated in interviews that he regarded The Mix as a type of live album, as it captured the results of the band's continual digital improvisations in their Kling Klang studio. The band made a return to the stage in 1990, after a nine-year hiatus from touring. Most of the songs featured on their set list from this point to the present time have been heavily rearranged in a similar fashion to what appears on the album.
