Gas 0095 is an album by Mat Jarvis (aka Gas). The album was first released in 1995 and soon became one of the more sought after albums in all of electronica. Many would describe Gas 0095 as ambient, which is probably due to there being a decent ambient component of the album, its otherworldly sound, and even Mat Jarvis sharing an alias with the better known Gas of Wolfgaing Voigt (who is a prolific ambient producer). But Gas 0095 is really not ambient, but more in the IDM, downtempo mold. There are lively, interesting, colorful sounds everywhere, and a few pretty upbeat tracks; definitely not something you could or would want to shove into background listening. While Gas 0095 has several claims to underground electronic music fame, its best is that it is quite simply a fantastic CD. Gas 0095 is just one of those albums that you find yourself enjoying time after time, one of those albums you can always listen to.

Ochre is the work of Newcastle, UK-based artist, Christopher S. Leary. He has been crafting utopian, melancholic music since 2001, and has released albums on Toytronic, Benbecula Records, and Village Green. Stylistically, his music is often highly melodic, described by NME as being "full of shimmering electronics, crunchy, crispy beats and sweeping melancholic melodies that recall classic electronic stars such as Boards Of Canada," with "analogue tones and glitchy beats - snatches of classical orchestration are peppered throughout, helping to create rich cinematic soundscapes".

Mere weeks after Autechre released SIGN, their first standard-length studio album in a decade, the duo issued PLUS, a companion effort bearing a similar cover design, this time with lush greens instead of flame-like orange shades. While SIGN was often far more textural than rhythmic, recalling more ambient-leaning Autechre works such as Amber and Quaristice, PLUS places a greater emphasis on steely beat constructions, and it generally feels colder, though not necessarily less human. "DekDre Scap B" opens the album with a series of splatters, stutters, and convulsions, yet close attention reveals that a nearly inaudibly faint pulse is barely holding it all together. "7FM ic" is a bit more chipper, and sounds like a fleet of alien spacecraft activating to a beat…

B.o.C chase up their hypnotic mix on the WXAXRXP NTS weekender with their a reissue of their 1998 ‘Peel Session’, augmented with the previously unavailable ‘XYZ’ off the same session. The OG EP’s trio of classic versions remain in place, revolving a beautifully reworked take on ‘Aquarius (Version 3)’, plus the neck-snap breaks and head kissing licks of ‘Happy Cycling’, and the bucolic air of ‘Olson (Version 3)’. ‘XYZ’ was recorded during the same session but never made it to the original release. It’s an eight minute beauty gently escalating from windswept, flyaway psych riffs to a fractious sort of folksy drill ’n bass onslaught.

OPN mounts a definitive opus with his rapturous 9th studio album, entirely produced during lockdown, with “executive production” by The Weeknd, who also supplies vocals alongside Arca and Caroline Polachek.
‘Magic Oneohtrix Point Never’ is titled after the mispronunciation of Magic 106.7, a local radio station in Boston, Massachusetts; the state where Daniel Lopatin aka 0PN grew up, and where the album was created. The radio station’s adult contemporary programming is a formative and enduring influence on OPN’s music, and it’s clear that he’s saved this album title for some of his most accomplished tributes to his influences, but refracted thru his prismatic styles to illustrate the distance between that era, and this, with some of his most elusive, illusive and beguiling sound design wrapped up in a mix of stunningly mazy and pop-toned arrangements…

First recognized as the dance duo behind the club hits "Stakker" (as Humanoid) and "Papua New Guinea," Future Sound of London later became one of the most acclaimed and respected international experimental ambient groups, incorporating elements of techno, classical, jazz, hip-hop, electro, industrial, and dub into expansive, sample-heavy tracks, often exquisitely produced and usually without easy precursor. Notoriously enigmatic and often disdainful of the press, the group's Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans worked their future-is-now aesthetic into a variety of different fields, including film and video, 2- and 3-D computer graphics and animation, the Internet, radio broadcast, and, of course, recorded music…

Scott Herren has grown into an iconoclast who resists the ingrained nature of releasing full-length-album statements every two to four years. Instead, during his career he has released several mini-albums, which are good ways to get more music into the market and put less of your reputation on the line. (After all, mainstream music critics need to take LPs seriously, but not EPs or singles.) Security Screenings, which arrived just one year after his last full-length, is light on collaborative tracks (only two) and very light on vocals (none whatsoever, besides a few random samples and the ironic inclusion of the low lights from a Prefuse interviewer who objects to the predominance of vocal tracks on 2005's Surrounded by Silence)…

This earlier work from Atom Heart is a far cry from what he's doing nowadays. Actually, compared to his recent output, it doesn't even really sound like the same artist. This retrospect is interesting because it shows the natural evolution that all artists undergo. This record was made at a time when Uwe Schmidt was concentrating on several styles at a time, and "Softcore" falls into a hazily defined bracket of IDM, with several tracks being quite ambient and others being just odd in general. Atom Heart is composing with a much simpler template here and resultantly the tracks sound very structured and much more mellow. All the tracks make nice well-constructed wholes, but as you let your ears wander over them all of the individual sounds are quite interesting in their own regard.

Dean De Benedictis, aka Surface 10, is a Southern California based composer/producer/conceptual artist and electronic music renegade. He melds his interests in a variety of musical styles and concepts ranging from experimental electronica to ambient, IDM to progressive jazz, and beyond, in order to produce a very distinctive sound.
"B2 Gigacosm" kicks off this Surface 10 album with one of the most awesome and breath-taking amalgams of electronic music styles, containing a huge ambient background overlaid with intricate rhythmic beats and a beautiful, soaring, treated violin solo. Indeed Dean brings a great range of influences to the melting pot in the 11 tracks that make up "Surface Tensions"…

Cascade was originally released Oct 1993 the first single from the now highly regarded Lifeforms album. Cascade went on to chart in the UK top 40 at No.27 and has continued to be regarded as an early piece of classic Electronica. Twenty-seven years later FSOL rebuild and create ten new compositions inspired by the original. The familiar electronic swamp of FSOL and engineer Yage can be heard as the tracks journey through fragmented melodies of the original composition.
