Nostalgia is a powerful tool. It’s been 16 years since the release of the album, but I easily remember what those days surrounding the release of the record were like. The excitement, the ambition, the comradeship, the triumphant tour to come, it was all there, about to carry the band to another level, musically and journey wise. “Once” instantly became Nightwish’s watershed album.

Supertramp came into their own on their third album, 1974's Crime of the Century, as their lineup gelled but, more importantly, so did their sound. The group still betrayed a heavy Pink Floyd influence, particularly in its expansive art rock arrangements graced by saxophones, but Supertramp isn't nearly as spooky as Floyd – they're snarky collegiate elitists, an art rock variation on Steely Dan or perhaps a less difficult 10cc, filled with cutting jokes and allusions, best heard on "Bloody Well Right."…

Luxury Liner ranks as Emmylou Harris' best-selling solo record to date, and it's one of her most engaging efforts as well; her Hot Band is in peak form, and the songs are even more far afield than usual, including Chuck Berry's "(You Never Can Tell) C'est la Vie" and Townes Van Zandt's painterly tale of aging outlaws, "Pancho & Lefty."

A posthumous collection produced by Rita Marley, based on work left behind by Bob upon his death. Some of his best post-Wailers work is here, with songs like "Buffalo Soldier," "Chant Down Babylon," and "Blackman Redemption." Given that he wasn't alive to do the production that he usually helped in, this album seems remarkably true to the general vision of Bob Marley's albums…

This Skin Deep CD consists of the two 10" LP's Louie Bellson recorded for Norman Granz's Norgran label, the material of which was later released on the 12" LP called Skin Deep. Duke Ellington fans may know of "Skin Deep" from the brilliant studio version on his Ellington Uptown album. When Bellson left Ellington's band, he recorded a version under his own name, a version that is equally as brilliant, and formed a legacy in his own right. Each 10" EP is distinct from the other, one with him as part of a quintet, the other with a big band. This is the Verve Elite Edition released on 27 July, 1999, remastered by Kevin Reeves.
