And here we are in 2017, we decided to start it out with a few major changes. Some of those changes you might like, while others might not please you as much, but there always has to be a trade-off.

Let us begin with the good news. First of all, we would like to thank all the 100k visitors that come to us every day. Second, we would like to list all the changes that were recently made on our website:

  • The script of our website was completely rewritten and renewed, which made the website more stable and quick.

  • All ads were removed from our website. No more banners, pop-ups and pop-under ads.

  • The website is using SSL protocols as we care greatly about security.

  • The website is available through Tor network (The Onion Router) by using this link: http://avaxhome5lcpcok5.onion/ or via TOR proxy http://avaxhome5lcpcok5.onion.to/

Now, we’d like to mention some of the unpleasant changes that will befall our users. As you might have noticed, we are now using a new file hosting website - IcerBox.com. From this day forward, all files can be downloaded from premium accounts only.

Do you look at life seeing a half-full or a half-empty glass of water? What we’re getting at is that you can look at this change as a mandatory fee for downloading files or you can view it as a crowdfunding of your favorite project!

Cheers to everyone! We hope that you’ll be with us for years to come!

These are ‘Future Standards’ by The Howe Gelb Piano Trio, taking an outsider view of early gospel and rhythm and blues both part of the American musical ocialization that he touched on with 2006’s ‘Sno Angel’. Now he’s on a jazz-tinged trip, bending the genre, taking it back to his shack. On ‘Future Standards’, Gelb duets with the equally laconic Lonna Kelley as the pair come on like a seasoned duo managed by Broadway Danny Rose in Woody Allen’s film of the same name. Gelb’s piano sinks to a pedal-depressed ambience as his cavalier vocal boasts of new love and faded times, all In the best tradition of the American Songbook that he’s pretty damn cleverly adding a new volume to. "This is an attempt at writing a batch of tunes that could last through the ages with the relative structure of what has become known as "standards". The likes of Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael done up by Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday," suggests Howe. "Julie London had a lot to do with it."

Considering that soul has been at the foundation of Hall & Oates' sound throughout their career – even their early folk-rock records had soulful underpinnings – it only made sense for the duo to eventually cut their own soul tribute album. As the title suggests, that's exactly what 2004's Our Kind of Soul is: Hall & Oates' spin on their favorite soul sounds. This includes, of course, heavy doses of Philly soul and Motown, along with other smooth soul of the '70s. Most of the album is devoted to covers – usually familiar tunes like "Standing in the Shadows of Love," "I'll Be Around," and "Used to Be My Girl," yet there are a couple of more obscure entries and a heavily rewritten "I Can Dream About You" (in his excellent track-by-track liner notes Daryl Hall reveals that Dan Hartman wrote the song with the duo in mind) – but there is a handful of originals that fit into the vibe quite well, such as the lush "Soul Violins" and "Let Love Take Control.

Having contributed to reshaping soul music of the mid- 1960s to the early 1970s via other recording artists (notably Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, The 5th Dimension), Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson were a long established song-writing success before expanding on this as a recording duo in 1973. Valerie would release two wonderful records albeit to limited commercial success before the duo branched out together with their Warner Bros. debut GIMME SOMETHING REAL. Following on from the joyous pop formula they had perfected during their run of song-writing with Motown, GIMME SOMETHING REAL sees the duo progressing further with a quiet storm template that would partially set the standard for future releases.

This five-disc set, contained in a cardboard sleeve that bundles standard jewel cases, consists of Lonnie Liston Smith & the Cosmic Echoes' four albums for Flying Dutchman – Astral Traveling (1973), Cosmic Funk (1974), Expansions (1974), and Visions of a New World (1975) – along with their first for RCA, Reflections of a Golden Dream (1976). Some of the albums were intermittently elusive, at least when it came to the CD format, throughout the years, so this was a convenient – and affordable – way to get them in one shot. However, it went out of print quickly after its 2009 release.

The Style Council's albums were always weighed down by their far-reaching musical ambitions, which meant that their ideas were usually best heard on their singles. And while this period of Paul Weller's career has been criticized heavily, he wrote several excellent songs during the Style Council, most of which are featured on the fine compilation The Singular Adventures of the Style Council. Not all of the 16 songs are first-rate, as it begins to lose steam toward the end of the band's life, but "My Ever Changing Moods," "You're the Best Thing," "Long Hot Summer," "Shout to the Top!," "A Solid Bond in Your Heart," "Money Go Round," "Walls Come Tumbling Down," and "Speak Like a Child" are terrific, and make the collection worthwhile for fans of the Jam and Weller's solo career, as well as fans of New Romantic new wave and jazzy sophisti-pop.

The last decade or so has seen a flood of compilations from the funky end of jazz so another one, and a double one at that, hardly seems to be something to get too excited about. But it is. Funky End is a superlative collection of familiar and not so familiar funk tunes from a diverse range of artists. It not only includes such funkmeisters as James Brown, Parliament and the Average White Band but also giants from the jazz world like Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Donald Byrd and Roy Ayers. Stand-out tracks are far too many to mention, although a personal favourite is the jaw-dropping cover by Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth". With such variety Funky End could easily have become a patchwork, but it manages to avoid the pitfall of many compilations and retain a sense of unity. And unity is what the funk is all about.
