Original, mellow, highly listenable, thoughtful lyrics, strange title! Not quite what we've come to expect from the Blues band, and indeed if you want a good boogie then buy their 'Live' album instead.

Things start to improve for Ozzy on No Rest for the Wicked, as Zakk Wylde replaces Jake E. Lee on guitar and Osbourne comes up with his best set since 1983. Again, it's not quite up to the level of excellence his Blizzard of Ozz band achieved, but Osbourne sounds somewhat rejuvenated, and Wylde is a more consistently interesting guitarist than Lee…

As part of The Stranglers' celebration of their Ruby Anniversary, the definitive collection of the B-side recordings they made whilst signed to Epic is released for the first time, via their own label. Appropriately, as befits a band marking forty years together, Here & There: The Epic B-sides Collection 1983-1991 gathers 40 tracks across 2 CDs and is also released as a 40 track digital package. The Stranglers released no less than 13 singles in the UK during this period, which saw them produce five albums: four studio and one live. The Stranglers signed to Epic Records in 1982 having been with United Artists / Liberty since 1977. The change of label coincided with changes in marketing policy across the UK industry - often dubbed "the Frankie Goes to Hollywood effect". Previously, The Stranglers' had released only one 12" single - an extended version of Bear Cage in 1980 - but from 2nd Epic single, Midnight Summer Dream until 1990, each release had a 12" version which required extra studio or, increasingly, live tracks to "add value" to the package.

Welcome to P51, Prog magazine's first cover CD for 2017. This first CD of the new year is certainly overflowing with promise. We feature former Limelight artist Baltic Fleet alongside Polymatters and Nerissa Schwarz, who seem to veer towards the synth side of prog. Then there are some real prog bangers in the shape of Kepler Ten, Kyros, The Fringe and Seas of Mirth, who can't fail to get the foot tapping and the head nodding. There's some stylish progressive rock from Glass Hammer and Aisles, and also from newbie Bugenhagen. Ten tracks of different styles, maybe, but all of the same level of quality.

The result of the meeting of Michael McCartney (brother of Beatle Paul), who would work as Mike McGear to avoid accusations of coat-tailing, and Post Office engineer John Gorman, the Scaffold took a blend of absurd humor and catchy songs to chart-topping glory throughout the 1960s. Their lineup filled out with Roger McGough and Adrian Henri, the group was briefly known as the Liverpool One Fat Lady All Electric Show, to the horror of everyone around them. Henri soon departed. A change of name later, they were gaining a reputation as one of the most amusing outfits on the scene, with a residency at Peter Cook's Establishment Club (where the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band also held court). The Scaffold's biggest successes were their cheerfully silly singles, starting with "Thank U Very Much" and continuing with "Lily the Pink" (a sterilized adaptation of an old rugby song, featuring Jack Bruce on bass) and the somewhat incomprehensible "Gin Gan Goolie," all of which had a knack for sticking in the mind on endless repeat without causing undue annoyance. These three songs, in particular, are well remembered even as the 1990s draw to a close.

Gòtic is the legendary musical band formed in Barcelona in the 70’s. Its activity lasted a few years , between 1970 and 1978. They published a single work, the L.P. " Escenes " in 1978. Over the years, and for the new generations , the band’s unique "long -play " has become an icon of the symphonic and progressive rock, almost an iconic sample of an era.
Back in 1978 Gòtic recorded the demo takes of what would be their second album (LP) during some “live” sessions in “Gema-1” recording studios of Barcelona. The band’s recording label disliked the tunes considering them “not enough sofisticated"… In 2013 the band recovered the original tapes and decided to digitalize, remaster and publish the works, with the invaluable help of the original engineers, Enric Català and Jordi Vidal, amazed by their quality and alive groove feeling.

Deep Purple went through more than their share of personnel changes over the years. In 1990, their lineup consisted of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (who had returned to the Purple fold in 1984 after leaving the band to form Rainbow following the release of Stormbringer in November 1974), singer Joe Lynn Turner, keyboardist/organist Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice, and bassist Roger Glover…

The Allman Brothers shared the bill with the Grateful Dead on several notable occasions. This release recalls the Brothers in support of the Dead and Love in February 1970 at the fabulous Fillmore East. No specific dates for the performances are noted, so it is presumed this release is a composite from recordings made at some point during the two sets per night that the Allman's performed on February 11th through the 14th. There is no mistaking the unbridled fervor of the original line-up of the band. Rising to the challenge of exploratory psychedelia – while remaining ever faithful to their Southern blues roots – blues standards such as "(I'm Gonna Move to The) Outskirts of Town" and "Hoochie Coochie Man" are strengthened and extended beyond their typical assertions. No longer are they relegated to the inadequately rendered thrashings of garage rock. Betts and the Allman's understand the dynamics of blues. It is out of this respect for the art form that the band is able to pull off such authentic psychedelia-tinged Delta sounds.

The Ranch is the only album by the American country music group The Ranch, fronted by Keith Urban. It was released by Capitol Nashville in 1997, and re-released in 2004 with two bonus tracks and re-titled Keith Urban in The Ranch. Keith Urban (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards); Jerry Flowers (bass, background vocals); Peter Clarke (drums, percussion).Technically, the Ranch was a country trio consisting of Peter Clarke, Jerry Flowers, and future superstar Keith Urban. In practice, though, it was a group of equals to the same extent as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which is to say, it wasn't a group of equals at all.

Back in 1990, Texas songwriter Butch Hancock staged a massive, six-night event entitled No Two Alike, wherein he played six straight evenings at Austin's Cactus Cafe. In the process, he recorded 140 of his own songs without repeating one. He then released the output later on cassette tapes. The reason for citing Hancock in a Paul Kelly review, particularly this one, is simply to establish the only precedent for this wonderful eight-disc live box set, the A to Z Recordings. Between 2004 and 2010, the revered Australian songwriter would perform his now legendary A to Z concerts, during which he would play two (largely) unplugged sets per evening for four nights, performing many of his songs, all in alphabetical order.
