Here She Comes Now/Venus In Furs is a split 7" 45 rpm single between grunge rockers Nirvana and Melvins. Released in 1991, it originally was done to support the Velvet Underground tribute album on Imaginary Records called Heaven And Hell. Melvins were the band that partly influenced Kurt Cobain to start his own band so it made sense they would join forces. Nirvana's cover of "Here She Comes Now" is traditional while Melvins' rendition of "Venus In Furs" is primarily not. This single was released by The Communion Label.

An emotionally charged hard rock outfit based out of Cullman, Alabama, Shallow Side's evocative blend of post-grunge angst and alt-rock has drawn comparisons to artists like Shinedown, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, and 10 Years. Founded by vocalist Eric Boatright, bassist/guitarist Cody Hampton, guitarist/keyboardist Seth Trimble, and drummer Heath Fields, Shallow Side put in some serious road time and endured more than their share of hardships before releasing their debut EP, Home Today, independently in 2013. A second EP dropped a year later, and in 2016 they released a new single, "Rebel." ~ James Christopher Monger

Surviving a shaky decade that produced a couple decent albums and few identity crises, Korn bring it back to basics on their 12th full-length, The Serenity of Suffering. It's both a reminder that Korn are the masters of this particular universe and also fiercely dedicated to its fans. Inasmuch as the Korn faithful are capable of fuzzy feelings, Serenity delivers goose bumps for those who have stuck with the band since the '90s. Diehards will notice that Jonathan Davis and the gang have brought things back to the Issues/Untouchables era – especially on "Take Me" and "Everything Falls Apart" – when Korn perfected the combination of nu-metal brutality, desperate vulnerability, and spook show creepiness (in fact, the Issues doll – now wrapped in stitched-up skin with exposed ribs – makes a prominent appearance on Serenity's album art). Without pandering to career-peak nostalgia, Korn deftly execute all the hallmarks that have come to define their sound.

Known as one of the hardest working bands out there, Like A Storm moved to the United States knowing no one, and built a devoted fan-base, tirelessly touring to promote their debut album, for Century Media 'Awaken The Fire'. Known for combining heavy baritone guitar riffs and hard rock songs with a sprinkling didgeridoo. Like a Storm have shared American & European stages with Alter Bridge, Korn, Shinedown, Black Veil Brides, Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Sick Puppies, and many others, and are the highest charting New Zealand hard rock band in American radio history. Including the new single 'Pure Evil' this mesmerizingly new follow-up album, 'Catacombs', showcases the band at the very top of their game.

Left to their own devices on Here and Now, Nickelback have done the unthinkable: they’ve embraced who they are. Chad Kroeger’s brow is no longer furrowed, treating rock & roll as an ordeal; he’s stepped back a bit, allowing himself to have a good time. This doesn’t quite mean he’s left his misogyny behind – it lingers, infecting otherwise innocuous songs – but it does mean that Nickelback no longer rely solely on heavy-footed power chords set to lumbering rhythms. True, this signature sound still underpins much of Here and Now, but the group is now loose enough to throw in a disco-rock thumper (“Kiss It Goodbye,” another in a long line of anti-Hollywood, anti-plasticity anthems destined to be staples in Hollywood strip clubs) and even dabbles in a bit of power pop on “When We Stand Together,” giving it an actual swing, something unheard on previous Nickelback albums, and this isn’t an isolated incident. “Gotta Get Me Some” abandons the brutal four-on-the-floor Nickelback signature in favor of an actual groove and the group even sounds nimble on its power ballads.

The Winding Sheet is a studio album by alternative rock artist Mark Lanegan. It was released in 1990 on Sub Pop. The album was Lanegan's first solo work, and is notable in its departure from the characteristic sound of Screaming Trees, the band he fronted from 1985 until 2000. While the work done in that group was much more energetic and fit into the burgeoning grunge genre of the late 80s/early 90s, The Winding Sheet has a much more stripped down sound, defining Lanegan's solo work largely for the rest of the decade. The album was a modest success. The term "winding sheet" is a synonym of shroud. "The Winding Sheet" is also the title of a traditional sea shanty that was the basis of the well known "Streets of Laredo". The album showcases Lanegan's adept skills as a lyricist and his deep, soulful voice. Highlights include "Mockingbirds," "Ugly Sunday" and the haunting "Wild Flowers." On "Down in the Dark" good friend Kurt Cobain sings while on the folk classic "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" Cobain contributes guitar and vocals and Krist Novoselic plays bass. Nirvana would later also cover "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" on their Unplugged album.

L7 had the sound, style, and tough-grrrl attitude to hit it big in the aftermath of grunge's mainstream breakthrough, but unfortunately, the band was too often hampered by uneven songwriting. The Best of L7: The Slash Years collects four songs apiece from Bricks Are Heavy, Hungry for Stink, and The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum (although, as the title suggests, there's nothing from the fine Sub Pop album Smell the Magic). It's a pretty good distillation of the cream of those records, even if there are still a few tunes on Bricks Are Heavy that could have made the cut on a less mathematically selected best-of. In fact, as L7's most pop-oriented record, Bricks Are Heavy is still a slightly more accessible introduction, since following that album, the band tended to rely more on sheer power than melody. Nevertheless, The Best of L7: The Slash Years does encapsulate what the group was all about, and it's a great way to dig deeper into their catalog without having to buy all the individual albums.

10 Songs is a 10 songs album or EP by Melvins. It consists of recordings from the same sessions that gave us their first six-song EP on C/Z Records. It features different takes of the songs on that EP plus four additional songs, including a slightly faster version of "Over From Under The Excrement" that would make it on their debut album Gluey Porch Treatments, but called "Over From Underground".
