Label: Beggars Banquet

Limited UK box set from the British Alt-Rock trio consisting of 3/4ths of Goth legends Bauhaus: Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins. Under-appreciated in Europe, Love And Rockets were capable of a far more colorful sonic palate than the darker sounds of their previous incarnation, as these CDs attest. The box contains digitally remastered and expanded editions of the albums Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven (1985), Express (1986), Earth Sun & Moon (1987), and Love & Rockets (1989) along with a fifth disc consisting of 18 non-album tracks.

On its one and only major-label release, Year of the Rat, NY Loose delivers powerful performances of a punk-pop musical blend that have nothing whatsoever to do with other '90s platinum purveyors of radio punk. Instead of simply being snide or just plain goofy rock stars like Green Day or the Offspring, NY Loose emits a refreshingly punk attitude of contrariness, if not actual rebellion, on this 1996 release. Founding members Brijitte West (guitars and vocals) and Danny Nordahl (bass) are joined on Year of the Rat by drummer Pete Lloyd and guitarist Marc Diamond. Each member seems versed well enough in the standard instrumental punk vocabulary, but West's saucy delivery and upfront lyrics make NY Loose special.

Pearl Jam entered Seattle's London Bridge Studios in March 1991 to record their debut album, Ten. Drummer Dave Krusen left the band in May 1991 after checking himself into rehabilitation and was replaced by Matt Chamberlain, but after just a handful of gigs Chamberlain left too and was superseded by Dave Abbruzzese, who played the rest of Pearl Jam's live shows supporting Ten. Released on August 27, 1991, Ten contained eleven tracks dealing with dark subjects like depression, suicide, loneliness, and murder.

Inhaler is the third studio album by American grunge band Tad, released on October 19, 1993 by Giant Records and Warner Bros. Records. It was the band's major label debut after two records and an EP released by Sub Pop, and it was also their first album with drummer Josh Sinder, formerly of The Accüsed. Tad toured with Soundgarden to promote Inhaler although the band failed to obtain worldwide success; but the record is widely regarded to be the band's strongest and obtained positive critical reception upon release. AllMusic senior critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine praised J Mascis' production work on the album, stating that the band "gets a more focused and driven sound." Erlewine also regarded the record as "easily their best and most consistent album to date". The album was featured as number 13 on Spin's 2004 list of "The 20 Greatest Grunge Albums of All Time".

MP3 CBR 320kbps | Tracks: 30 | 89:50 min | 206 Mb

This 2xCD set collects the entire studio-recorded output of the U-Men, remastered, plus 5 unreleased songs, with 16 pages of photos, liner notes, and interviews with the band. Executive produced by Jack Endino. The U-Men are one of the best bands I've ever seen. They were hypnotic, frenetic, powerful and compelling. It was impossible to resist getting sucked into their weird, darkly absurd world. They effortlessly blended The Sonics, Link Wray, Pere Ubu, and Captain Beefheart. Their shows were loose-limbed, drunken dance parties and no two shows were alike. The U-Men were avant-garage explorers and, most importantly, they fucking rocked. I was lucky enough to live in their hometown and I saw them every chance I could. From 1983 to 1987, the U-Men were the undisputed kings of the Seattle Underground. No one else came close. They ruled a bleak backwater landscape populated by maybe 200 people.

Combining nu-metal with serious pop polish and structure, Alien Ant Farm always felt like a band that lived in two worlds: not quite heavy enough to be metal, but a little too fast-paced for the pop set. And while Alien Ant Farm's genre might be unclear, their entry in the 20th Century Masters series gives fans a bird's-eye view of their career and another opportunity to try nailing down what these guys were up to. Given the musicianship on tracks like "Movies" and their cover of the Michael Jackson classic "Smooth Criminal," while it might be hard to describe, it sure did work.

A Small Deadly Space is the second and final full-length studio album from the heavy metal band Fight, released first in Japan on April 12, 1995, with 11 tracks via Sony Music Entertainment. The music has a more grunge-oriented sound, making it less appealing to fans who had developed a taste for the previous album. The disc found Halford seeming like he was making a solid effort to not reproduce his Judas Priest sound. Indeed, the disc showed a Rob Halford who was staying more to the lower end of the register rather than screaming out in a Priest-ish display of vocal pyrotechnics. Overall, this is a great album, and certainly a nice bookend for the group's brief career.

The band has had 16 top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, eight of which peaked at #1, and one #1 album for Purple in 1994. That same year, the band won a Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" for the song "Plush" from the album Core.
