Jonathon was a huge man, very huge according to the people who met him, he also had a huge voice and wide open way of musical thoughts. His roaring theatrical version of "Sympathy For The Devil" made an effect by the time it's release, but couldn't drift the album to make the splatter that he expected and the sales stood in low numbers. That of course means nothing at all, the rest album keeps the high stature, from the opening "In Quest Of Unicorn" to his aspect of the Bee Gees "To Love Somebody" we are tasting some great vocal work, supplemented by musicianship which is practically beyond reproach.

Beginnings is the debut album by the British rock band Ambrose Slade, who later achieved fame as Slade. It was released on 9 May 1969, but failed to enter the charts. In the US, it was released under the title Ballzy. Later in 1975, the album was briefly re-released by Contour as Beginnings of Slade but was quickly withdrawn from sale due to copyright issues. Beginnings is a mixture of self-penned songs and cover versions including two tracks by Steppenwolf. As to confirm the diversity of the group's influences, they also cut Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes' "Journey to the Centre of Your Mind", "Ain't Got No Heart" by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, The Moody Blues' "Fly Me High", Lennon and McCartney's "Martha My Dear" and "If This World Were Mine" by Marvin Gaye.

One of the more curious acts in the Bay area group scene was a band (or collective) called One, or, more specifically 1, acquaintances of Paul Kantner and Grace Slick from Bolinas. A nine-piece ensemble including two female vocalists, they engaged in lengthy, drifting tunes that drew as much from raga as from rock, with touches of jazz and country. One member, Roger Crissinger, the only semi-known quantity, had previously enjoyed notoriety having been a member of the progressive rock group Pearls Before Swine. But the leader of the group was a mysterious man who didn't always sing so much as vocalise in his own unique way, often without words, who needed words…

Released as a private edition of only 200 copies in 1977 on the 'Joint' label (but recorded two years earlier, in 1975), Warlus 'Songs' could be regarded as the king of all French 70s obscure private pressings. Warlus was the brainchild of young musician Richard Maubert, who created a mini- masterpiece of twisted, melancholic fuzzed- out psychedelic- pop, with a charming homemade sound/ production and druggy atmosphere. Sung in English, it also brings to mind some obscure USA private pressings like Kath. This is a very special record that will appeal to both psych afficionados and fans of 70s DIY weirdness. If you like other French private pressings like Dandelion and Les Temps Heureux, you'll be amazed when you hear Warlus…

This budget LP is among the many posthumous Jimi Hendrix releases that surfaced in 1972. In the Beginning is an appropriate title for the record, which focuses on some early, lesser known material that Hendrix did in June 1966 before he formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience and enjoyed a major commercial breakthrough with Are You Experienced?…

The first album from Dust is interesting on many levels. The rhythm section featured drummer Marc Bell, who would later join New York punk rockers Richard Hell & the Voidoids, while bassist Kenny Aaronson would sign on with labelmate Stories on the group's third album, as Ian Lloyd moved from bass/vocals to complete frontman. The songwriting team of producer Kenny Kerner and singer/guitarist Richie Wise would go on to produce the third Stories album, making this Dust debut and its follow-up an important piece of the Stories puzzle. Wise's lead vocals on Dust were decent enough to complement his very competent guitar playing; Wise would eventually get hired as A&R man at Scotti Brothers Records…

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats' first album, Vol. 1, may not have cost much money to make, but the ideas behind it are solid gold. Working cheaply on clapped-out gear, guitarist/vocalist Kevin Starrs, bassist Kat, and drummer Red take all the dusty tropes of heavy metal, acid rock, biker rock, and doomy psych rock, knock them around mercilessly, then breath life back into them until they shine like new. It's defiantly lo-fi and unadorned by studio gloss, but it works. It doesn't matter that Starrs' grinding guitars sound ready to fizzle out half the time, the bass and drums are barely audible, and the vocals are murky when the songs are so hooky and the performances are so on point…

Weeed have presumably smoked so much that they’ve simultaneously reversed and advanced the ageing process to give them the wisdom of ancient herbalist druids and the primal force of heavy rock elders such as Black Sabbath and Sleep. Weeed's debut for Imprec, titled This, has an expansive musical vision and an astonishingly mature sound from a young band. Despite their relatively young ages Weeed has been together for ten years - a fact made apparent bythe fluidity and unity of their sound. Labels such as stoner/psych/jam/alt/Krautrock seem to fall short as the band draws from a deeper pool of inspiration including gnawa, traditional folk, jazz, minimalist orchestras, overtone singing and much more…

As the frontman for the epic British drone-pop band The Verve, Richard Ashcroft proved himself the spiritual descendant of rock & roll icons like Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison – rivetingly charismatic, menacingly serpentine, and possessed of an almost shamanic intensity, he embraced and articulated the anthemic fervor of rock music with a power and eloquence unparalleled by any of his contemporaries.

Just as they did with their unexcitingly named 2010 debut, Vol. 1, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats dedicate their sophomore album, the following year's tellingly named Blood Lust, to celebrating the Summer of Love's soul-chilling autumn: a blasted landscape, post-flower power, resembling Altamont's killing fields, reeking of the Manson Family murders, and, naturally, sounding like a mish-mash of all of the apocalyptic musical forces that converged upon that era. We're talking a mixture of psychedelic rock's harrowing comedown, garage and punk rock's nihilistic ascent, and the earliest manifestations of heavy metal's occult-laced, nerve-damaging bludgeon (later reclassified as doom) - all poured into a deadly cocktail…

Tim Buckley possessed a golden voice that spanned the range from baritone to tenor. More importantly, he knew what to do with it. Sometimes he used it simply as a vehicle to carry the lyrics. Other times he used it as an extraordinary musical instrument in its own right. This box contains three live albums on four CDs from Buckley’s classic phase: “Dream Letter – Live in London 1968” (on two CDs), “Live At The Troubadour 1969” and “Honeyman – Recorded Live 1973”. These performances feature eight songs that were never otherwise recorded, alongside selections from Goodbye And Hello, Happy Sad, Blue Afternoon, Lorca, Greetings From LA and Sefronia.
